I would have to say that this is a pretty interesting idea for the smiley. I mean it almost looks like it is a martian because of the green skin and how the background is in space. One thing that throws me off is how he doesn't have legs.
Great job on that i like the color combinations, the background goes great the character. The neck is in front of the head so maybe change the layers.
Put the layer with the body under the layer with the head. Your neck is in front.
